pipe size

Right now on my 1973 pickup I have 2.25" dual exhaust with glasspacks it has a nice rumble to it but I'm geting tired of the police in my town always watching me. I bought some headers for my 390 and am going to run flowmaster 40 series on my truck, not sure if i should run 2.25 or 2.5 " pipe though.

2.25 is stock on thr 390. I put 2.50 on my 300 six and it is not much louder.

id go with 2.5 and run the 40 flowmaster

I have a 71 and am going to get some exhaust for it. I was going to get hooker headers, dual 2.5 pipes to ____ either glasspacks, or 40's flowmasters. I think that i will go with the flowmasters for this one (i have a 62 ford w/ dual glasspacks). Also i have seen h pipes and x pipes, my question is are they really worth it?
