Question Overheating

Redtaurus94,

The 1211 trouble code is described as "ICP Not Controllable-Pressure above/Below Desired" and then goes on to list the Pinpoint Test Steps (KOEO|KOER|Continuous) with sub routines that go on for many steps. Although my diagnostics are for 2001 & 2002 they're good across all of Fords model lineup from the escort to the F750, so I think they're legit for yours. If you need all the pinpoints & subroutines- post a message and I'll get it to you as soon as I can. Good luck. ICP- Injector Control Pressure- directly affected by the HPOP? Lower pan oil pump? Can you really be having an oil supply problem after all?

Well I am probably grasping at straws since chips/tuners are known to occasionally throw an ICP code....but what if it isn't, then the pressure may be uncontrollable because of a restriction of some sort in the oil system......like the cooler maybe

Probably not really feasable....just thinking out loud.

Thumbs up Overheating

Redtaurus94,

I'll get it to you asap. The only thing that takes time is that I don't know what format Ford created this in, I've tried to cut & paste but MS Word says it isn't a supported format, so I have to print out the pages needed then re-type them into an email- no problem- it won't take too long. If you have a cd burner- I could try emailing the contents of the cd to you, or if you know where I could post a 384 mb file on the net for you to download, let me know.

Try to right click, select all, then copy/paste to the e-mail. Not sure if I'm remembering it exactly right, but there is a way to get it into an e-mail... a regular e-mail, the e-mail link through FTE won't support it.

Question Overheating

Cookie88,

The program won't let you, this part of the troubleshooting guide/diagnostics is a table with hyperlinks. It will only let you use the hyperlinks to go to the individual pages, then you can copy and paste into "Wordpad" not "MS Word". I'm copying & pasting 1 page at a time. Almost done!

Keep us posted RT. Cookie if he has a failure in the lower pump that would mean an engine pull wouldn't it? I sure hope that's not it.

Nope. The LPOP is bolted to the front of the crankshaft. You can R2 it with the engine in the vehicle.

RT the more I re-read this thread the more I wonder if it isn't just an electrical gremlin. Are you driving the truck any? Any funny lights or gauges just puttering around town?

Could it be an oil problem, like foaming? If the oil is overheating, wouldn't is show in an oil analysis?

cookie, I am still driving the truck, but not every day, and not on any long trips since the ocurrances in question. I have seen no evidence of anything since. No lights....no guages reading high....nothing. I drove the truck to town about 25 or 30 miles roundtrip the other day and everything was fine.

I would like to know more about checking that EOT (is that Engine Oil Temperature?)sensor. Where is it? Perhaps I could change that just to see if that is what the problem is. I also have to wonder about the oil foaming deal. If I am foaming the oil, wouldn't that cause the P1211 code? What all will cause the oil to foam? I am about due for a 5000K oil change. Maybe I need to shorten my intervals on oil changes some. I use Rotella dino and the oil level is right on the mark, after I added the quart I mentioned earlier in this thread.

If the worst scenario is true (the pump), is there an upgrade or something that I can do to to the new pump, or perhaps a high-perf pump available?

I just have to thank you all again for all the fabulous help. Sooner or later, I will get to the bottom of this issue, and if not for all your help, it would be a hopeless case. This site and the members thereof are incredible.........
