Can a programmer which has been used on one vehicle subsequently be used on another vehicle just to check error codes? If so, anyone in Tampa have one I might steal (under your supervision, of course) long enough to do that?
Not knowing what your looking for as far as codes but in the past ive gone to autozone and they were willing to do a scan on my cars for free...they will ask you if the check engine light is on and all you have to say is yes it does come on at times....after doing the scan they will print out what the codes were along with what the causes may be and the parts needed to fix it and thier prices...hope that helps
Autozones POS won't read a PSD I tried twice but if somebody over there has an SCMT they can read your codes we right coaster are having a dyno day this weekend if any one wants to come letme know and give you the details

If your coming to the dyno day we will have a tuner there to read your codes
And to answer your question, yes, you can go truck to truck to truck with a scanner or code reader, and be just fine. Code reader you just plug and go, scanner you will need to adjust for year/vehicle, but same deal, plug and go. Wally world has a decent code reader and re-setter for under a hundred bucks. MIne has saved me many trips to a mechanic in the wife's truck and mine.
