Removal of Dealer Logo

Does anyone have a recommended method for removing the dealers logo decal from the tailgate of my truck? I want to take it off, but I don't want to damage the paint.

Thanks,

SgtFred

what kind of logo is it? is it a sticker type or like on my truck its a plastic logo with a foam tape on the back. various methods have been used, hair drier, heat guns, adhesive remover. i prefer the heating method, just have to be careful and take your time is all.

I have in the past made the dealer remove mine. I told them it was a unauthorized accessory which I did not approve of.

You can probably just peel it off and use goof off to get the glue residue off. I peeled 8 feet of chrome rocker panel molding off so you should be able to get the emblem off with no problem.

Thanks fellas. Just to clarify, it's the sticker kind. I think the emblem would actually be easier to get off because you have something to grab hold of. Has anyone taken the sticker type off, if so, any tricks I should know about?

Thanks,

SgtFred

If its cool outside, use a hairdryer and your fingernail to start it. I also found that using turtle wax on the sticky residue left after peeling the sticker off removed it quite well.

I hate these stickers. Typically they last about an hour on any vehicle i've ever owned. Heat is helpful, but you don't really need a lot. Park the vehicle in a position that allows the sun to work on the sticker for a couple of hours. I've had good luck peeling them off with my fingernails. I've used WD-40 and a clean towel to pull off the adhesive residue, just be certain to wash off the paint with soap and water as soon as possible, as WD-40 is petroleum-based.

I have always used my fingernails with no problems, sometimes the stickes like to come off in small pieces if they are on too long. I did buy a vehicle once that was a dealer trade, and it looked like the dealer I bought it from used a razor blade to take off the original dealers stickers, I found nice scrape lines under the new sticker. Removal of the dealer sticker is one of the first things I do to a new vehicle.

If it doesnt peel off easily, you can use a high pressure spray washer. Those things will take off any sticker and leave the paint behind.

I don't know about a new vehicle with nice new paint BUT on my old Aerostar van I wanted to remove some sticky residue and WD-40 worked great. Didn't take off the paint.

When I removed mine (rubber sticker type), I used my fingernail to pry open a corner, then I sprayed WD between the sticker and paint and SLOWLY peeled back, while spraying more WD(must of used a quarter of a can--But my paint is still good). To clean up, I used more WD and a old microfiber cloth. Washed the truck and waxed the area where the sticker was
