heater hose routing. 302, help please..

I thought I would remember where they went, must be getting old! LOL

I have a 302 from the 70's, there are two outlets on the water pump for heater hoses, and one on the thermostst housing. There is a fitting on the manifold and two heater hoses on the firewall (in a 56 f100) an upper hose and a lower. Anyone have any diagram, or can anyone take a look at their smallblock and bail me out??

not real sure, but should be one hose coming from the heater core to the water pump,
another hose from the heater core to the intake, the other hose on the water pump should be a bypass hose that goes to thermostat housing.

If your engine is the same as mine (a 85 302 EFI) there are 2 spots on the water pump for heater core hoses. The upper one goes from the waterpump to the thermostat housing (bypass hose) and the lower one goes to the heater core (right side I believe, if looking from the front of the truck). The other heater core hose goes to the engine. Hope this helps.

P.S. I may be wrong but I don't think it matters what heater core hose goes where. Just make sure you have the bypass hose right.

Diagrams in this case would not provide any more information than what have already been written.

On the thermostat housing, next to the big outlet that the upper radiator hose attaches to, is a smaller nipple that bypasses the thermostat with a short 90 degree elbow, right into the upper nipple on the water pump.

On top of the front of the intake manifold, behind the thermostat housing, is a fitting that comes straight up with a right angle nipple that should have a hose feeding one side of the heater core.

The other nipple on the heater core has a hose that goes to the lower nipple on the water pump.

That's it; 3 small (5/8") hoses.

Search "302 Ford" and select images. You have to look at several, which is why I'm not posting 5 or more links. You will see the bypass hose, but you may need to look at two views.

The heater hoses will be apparent with one or two view points.

SBF is, IMO, one of the easiest engines to work on.
