AFR heads, Some casted in the USA some in China

I have been watching Eric Weingartner (Weingartner Racing) Youtube channel for a year or so now and last week he posted a video of his tour at AFR. The video is kinda long winded so I fast forwarded here and there. About 34 minutes in he starts talking about castings. (Edelbrock who use to cast all of AFR's stuff put AFR in a difficult situation so they were forced to explore options) Someplace from there to the end he shows how to tell if a AFR head is a China casting or USA casting. In one of his previous videos he showed the casting difference as well but he did not know at that time there was a China casted AFR head. He also mentioned AFR said they have less problems with the China casted head than the USA casted head. I have seen other head porters video's and they all pretty much are saying the same thing that the China casting is superior now. I am sure there is Junk China castings as well so you have to pay attention to what you are buying. I agree with Eric that this is sickening but it is, what it is in today's Covid world and corporate decisions that affect many of us. Anyways I just wanted to give you guys a FYI on AFR heads.

That's been true for a while now. Edelbrock used to cast heads for just about everybody.

Im currently saving up for some 185s, there due to be in stock in Australia by may. Don't know whether to go for the enforcers or renegades.
$3200 for the renegades.
$2000 for the enforcers.

For that kind of price I think it would be cheaper to buy them here in the USA and have them shipped to you. I believe the enforcers have a double drilled exhaust bolt pattern so check to make sure they fit the regular bolt hole manifold / header pattern. The stock bolt hole spacing is 2". If the enforcers are wider you would need to buy or make a adapter plate up or maybe see if someone will make you a set of special headers to fit the F150 like Kooks headers but those will be $1000 +

Something interesting is the Renegades use the standard ford 1.25" X 1.5" exhaust gasket and the enforcers use 1.38 X 1.4 gasket. So headers may be a problem.

I pulled the trigger on a set of Promaxx 180's. They flow and cost about the same as the enforcers but use the standard 1.25 X 1.5 exhaust gasket.

About the pricing. The retailers are smart, its very close to what you can import for the same price.
They charge a little bit more than you can do it but there is a risk importing stuff your self.

I will go the renegades. Just work a couple of extra hours per week.
Thanks for the Exhaust sizes ZRT1200, it seems like its covering all sizes which makes sense for the price.
If you charge one third cheaper you have to make it two third as good.

Your welcome on the exhaust port sizes. The Renegade's do use a bigger intake gasket which is not a big deal as you can use a smaller intake opening like a stock manifold. As for ... ( If you charge one third cheaper you have to make it two third as good. ) Normally I would agree with you 100%. But now days you still have to watch what you pay for.
