Stall out? Erg? PFE Sensor?
My problem is when down shifting it will upon occasion loose all power and being a manual it is like riding a bucking bronco. If I put in the clutch and feather the gas a bit the engine will come back and generally be ok. It was only happening very rarely until last Monday when I thought it was done for. But now... Friday it hasn't happened at all. It has been suggested that I may have a clogged EGR Valve... or that the PFE sensor might be out... There don't seem to be any other symptoms... it does not rev at an idol... or try to stall ... it dosn't seem to matter if it is cold or hot... but it has been much hotter here in the last week or so.. over 100 and I have been running the AC.
Any other suggestions how to be sure where the problem is ... or if I am looking in the wrong direction.
(I am guessing you will all tell me to have the codes read... the check engine light did come on very briefly once or twice... but not every time... I am trying to avoid some labor charges)
(I bought this car used at 106K and have no idea which sensors if any have been replaced)
Codes are real easy to pull. I saw an easy to read write up on the KOEO test at www.fordfuelinjection.com using only a paper clip (or equivalent). Definitely the best place to start.
