Just wanting to see what people get for ther 6.9's or 7.3's. I have heard people getting up too 25 mpg(6.9L) when they baby it. Just wanted to know what people get. Thanks alot.
it all depends on how you drive it, if i baby my 6.9 F350 dually i get 16-18 on a worn out motor, if i baby my dads freshly rebuilt F250 6.9 i can get 20-22, if i run it like its made to pull it goes down to 10-12.
6.9 c6 3spd, driving normally, 10mpg w/no load...somethings wrong with it though, I haven't figured out what yet though
I've got seven diesel trucks - all G.M. (Chevy) 6.2s except for my 85 Ford F250 with 60,000 original miles on it and a 6.9 diesel. Runs great, starts better then my Chevys, but it is absolutely awful on fuel mileage. It's the heavy F250, extra cab, 8' bed, 4WD, and three-speed automatic - 8600 lb.GVRW, 155" wheelbase, and 3.55 rear. The best I've gotten at 65 m.p.h. on the highway is 10.6 MPG - no load, no trailer! Towing a loaded trailer it's not much different. Hard to figure. I've been a diesel mechanic for 40 years and I can attest that the truck is in excellent mechanical shape. Runs great, starts great, no smoke, does not run hot - where the heck does the fuel go? My worst mileage Chevy truck gets 18 MPG (3/4 ton, 4WD, 6.2 diesel).
Has anybody ever made one of these trucks better on mileage? If I could get 14 MPG on trips I'd be happy with it considering it IS pretty heavy. As far as the owners that claim to get better than 20, I'd have to see it to believe it. My neighbor has a 3/4 ton Cummins powered Dodge that gets 17 on the highway, and a new Chevy Isuzu Duramax diesel and the best he's gotten so far is 16.5.
