How do I know which engine is in my truck? SOHC or Pushrod? Sorry, not much of a mechanic, and which repair manuals would you reccommend for me, novive but willing to try......thanks

 

The engine identifier is a letter that is the eight digit of the VIN. Yours should be an "X". All '91 Explorers were the OHV 4.0 V6s. As far as manuals go, I suggest getting a Chiltons and a Hayes. There only about $15 each. Between the two, you shouldn't have any problems.
