Smile Are junkyard motors OK to swap-in/repair

I have a 1987 E-150 with a 302 FI and I seen a 5.8 FI in the junkyard. Would that be OK to swap if it runs or not. And if not would a junkyard motor be rebuildable without to much expence if it doesn't run. Anyother problems I might run into. Thanks.

junk yard motors

I've used them about 4 times. batting about 500. They will back it for 90 days as a rule, but just the engine. Labor is your problem. Can't tell you how crappy you feel when you're all done...start it up, and belch blue smoke, or no oil pressure. Ruins your whole day. Why not call Jaspers or do it yourself. Once it's in on an engine stand, it's not too bad.

I had a friend borrow my Falcon back in the 70's. He tore up my tranny, so I needed a new one. I changed it 3 times with junk yard trannys. It was the old 3 on the tree. I finally ended up getting a manual, and rebuilt it myself. Some guys have had good luck with them, but it is a crap shoot.

As far as getting the 5.8. I've heard it's do-able, but you might have to mess with computers, sensors and all that emission stuff.

Good luck
