I have the 99' mountaineer with the 5.0. I thought this should be maybe a little quick. But this thing is a piece of #####

I'm getting beat by grannys in six cylinder chevy's.

It all may be due to the accessories on the X. 4WD vs 2WD will make a difference, running boards, any extra weight. The 5.0's only come stock with the Auto Trans, so a stock Manual 4.0 may feel quicker, but the stock 4.0 OHV or SOHC is not faster 0-60 or top end than the stock 5.0's.

I have a 99 Limited w/ the 5.0 V8 and it is pretty damn quick. That guy must be having probs with his engine or something because nobody ever beats me at a light (not that I necessarily try all the time). Get some performance parts for it: headers, cat-back, computer chip, etc. and you'll see a huge difference.
