Just bought the ford molded splash guards and ford long profile bug deflector. I dont hear much about either in these forums. Any info good or bad about them before I install them? (Beside the crack price I paid for them flaps $65 for set of 4 and $75 for bug shield)
Just installed my Ford brand low-profile bug shield yesterday. So far, I'm very impressed. It looks very nice and have not been able to see any bending or flexing up to 75 mph. A reall winner.
I have thought about the mud flaps, but I understand they they are not compatible with many of the nerf bars. I'm probably going to get the nerf bars, so I didn't want to have a usless set of flaps.
I'm planning on getting the flaps. The price isn't really all that bad if you consider that the generic molded ones at AutoZone/Pep-Boys are $32 for 2 flaps.
Could you post pics after you install the flaps and bug shield? Thanks.
Made a new album called Mudflaps in my gallery. I started to put on the bugshield and lost a screw. So I returned it all and got a whole new one! I also discover some paint flaws under the hood that I want to address with the dealer before I put the deflector on.
Something I dont like is the lack of the rear wheel well housing/cover. The mudflap seems to be hanging in limbo.
My dealer wouldn't sell me the mud flaps because he said they'd interfere with the running boards. After looking at Firewiz's pics They don't look like they'd interfere at all. Anyone put them on that has factory running boards?
I put on the ford mud flaps and they fit fine with the factory black round bars on my FX4. There is about a half inch clearance in the front but they fit the molded wheel well perfect. They are black and my molding is dark grey but they look fine.
Install was a snap but one of the holes doesn't line up so you have to drill a hole and then use the clip on screw nut, I think it was on the rear, and by the way don't forget that the ones with the Ford emblem goes on the rear! I started to put them on the front but they did not fit quite right and I caught my mistake. Worth the $65. IMO.
Thanks for the quick reply WEB. I checked the photos in your gallery and we have the same bars. I'm headed back to the dealer to ****** back that bag of mud flaps.
I have the black flat running boards. I heard that Ford's front flaps would not work. I bought Husky's and they fit fine. There is a little indention so the corner of the running board clears.
I found the same molded Mudflaps on E-bay, brand new, and won the bid for $25.....it was the same part number and all, brand new in the bag shipped to my door. I compared em to the ones at the Dealership, and they were identical. Now I need to find the bug guard for cheap.
installed AVS(auto vent shade) bug shield (pep boys under $50) looks great, fits perfect, no drilling(have to remove grill)no flexing. AVS prob makes the one you bought
Do the mud flaps you all are talking about keep rocks from flying from the tires to the paint pretty good. The roads I travel to my hunting spots are long gravel suckers and rock chips show up well on black vehicles, wait everything shows up on black vehicles. I'm not all that worried about mud itself or even snow it's the rocks and cinders I don't want to deal with.
not to throw a "rock in the works" but the last I read on this subject (here) was that the poster (person) said the Ford mud flaps didn't cover the wheel wells good enough and that he was getting a lot of rock chips/dings up under and inside the rear fender/ 1/4 panel.
