2002 F350 Diesel Dually Recall? NHSTA? Help

I am in the process of buying a used 2002 F350 Diesel Dually
Manuafacture date 5/02 ... 20K miles. I see on the NHSTA web site
it appears there is a problem with some of the 2002 models. They
call it "ETC Accelerator Pedal Sensor Failure" Anybody have any
experience with this issue..(power failure while drving??) Is there a build
date or other codes I should be on the look out for? This is my first
truck purchase so I appriciate all feedback! Tks. Z

Ztruck,

I own a 2002 and have heard no such recall or specific problem related to that year.

NHSTA F350 02 and the 7.3

Tks for the quick response. There are 6 PDF files from the last
couple months (full of legal mumbojumbo) on the NHSTA site referring
to the 02 F350. Also many pages of service bulletins
and lots more. From what I can tell so far it looks like
early model 02 (ie- manufactured in late 01 - early
02 ) had lots of problems.
Looks like some owners have lost power by losing
the ability to accelerate while driving on the highway.
No fatalities as of yet but the documents state that
100K and more Fords with 7.3 are affected.

My truck is being inspected tomorrow. Anything you have
run into with your 02 that I might be on the look out for with
mine? tks, Z

I have a 02 F-250 with adjustable pedals and I got the recall. Took it in and 20 minutes they gave it back to me. I did not show any problems before I took it in nor have I had any since. But when i saw on the recall paper about the throttle pedal I thought it best to get that looked at.

I was mailed the notice for my '02 F350. I never had any trouble with it. Took it in, they did their "magic" for free. I still don't have any trouble with it. Seemed to work perfectly before and after.
Not a big deal.
They carefully track these thing by VIN (I think), so any dealer should be able to tell you whether this truck is AOK. If not, I'm sure it's a free fix at any Ford dealership
Good luck - the wife LOVES this feature (the one time I let her drive my truck!).

BTW - other things to look out for: leaking HPOP, leaking turbo pedastal seals (with both, you'll see moisture on top of the engine "in the valley". I also had a failure which earned me a free new PCM. I'm hoping these things are exceptions and not the rule, since I absolutely love this thing (almost as much as my '65 F100).

Hi- Thanks for the info. This is cool to hear from YOU cause my Grandfather had a dark blue 65 F100 like yours. I want to purchase a working or refurbished one in the near future. Great memories of his Ford compelled me to go with the Ford F350 as my first truck vs buying a Dodge 3500. If you happen to have a full photo of your F100 please email it to me. Would love to see the whole truck. Did they make a Long bed and a short bed in 65? tks, Z email = mooncamp@hotmail.com
