i am going to get some new mud tires for my 79 f 150 4x4 because my old tires are old and worn. i was going to get some dunlop mud rover m/t's because i have heard many good things about these tires. i then looked through tirerack and found a few more tires to choose from. one i am completely unfamiliar with is the firestone destination m/t. by the comparison ratings and reviews it is supposed to be a great mud tire. another tire is the bridgestone dueler m/t. i dont know much about this tire either. i do do a lot of on road driving but i hunt and fish and live on a farm and like to play in the mud from time to time. i know these do not compare to swampers and i do not expect them to either. i do expect them to be much quieter even though a little tire noise is a good thing. just need a good exhaust and stereo.
what size tire you looking for? I'm gonna go with the ground hawgs, they run on the bigger size but come in 35" and last a real long time from what I heard and perform decent in the mud. I haven't heard about the firestone, the bridgestone are good but expensive. you may check out the old stand by BFG mt's or the Yokahama mt's I heard are good as well.
I'd say go with a set of Hawgs! they last forever on the road and pull pretty good in the mud. sounds perfect for your application! Warning though....if you can fit a set of 38's on your truck and that's what you want, order the 40's b/c they are smaller than they are advertised!
I used to run the Dunlop mud rovers. They are a bit loud on road, but work reasonalbly well in mud. 33x12.5- 15. The Bronco would go damn near anywhere with them.
I am going to buy the dunlops for my little truck when the factory tires go bad. The price is very appealing, and I had their rover RVs before, and they seem to be good. I have also had 2 sets of the BFG MTs and while they are great, they are hyped up and because of that, overpriced. I don't think you would go wrong with the dunlops. However, I do love my Swampers on my ford
my tires are just going to be 31/10.50 like i have on the truck now. i want a decent mud tire that wears decent and is not insanely loud. so has anyone ever heard about the firestone destination m/t? according to tire rack ratings comparison they are better in everything than the mud rover
the tires i have currenty are the old firestone 23 degree atx tires. i cant say how great they were in the mud really to compare with any of the other tires i am thinking about because since i have gotten the truck they did not have much tread left. my dad put them on the truck back in the 80's i would imagine. he said they did good in the mud. so has anyone ever ran those firestone destination m/t's or know of anyone that has?
> the tires i have currenty are the old firestone 23 degree atx tires
There should be a Federal recall on those dude! Any Firestone ATX and ATX II will be replaced for free at a Firestone dealer. Didn't anyone tell you this two years ago? You can even use the tires as a credit towards a bigger tire. I know someone that grabbed (4) ATXs from our junk pile, I mounted them, he drove to the Firestone dealer and traded them in on brand new (P235s to 31s) 31s for his Wrangler.
Can't go wrong with the ProComp M/T's, buy 3 get 1 free! Running a set on my 93 Explorer...I got 32,000 out of the first set (yes I could see the air in the old set)
no no one told me this but the pickup has been sitting up until about a year ago. so is it on all of the firestone atx tires no matter how old? and is the recall still good even though it was recalled years ago?
the size of the tire is p235/75/r15 which is smaller than my 31/10.5 so it is not the same tire correct? i pry wouldnt be able to get new tires according to a site it says the expire date for the replacement was august 29, 2001. but it also says if it is after this date that i should still call them so i may just do that and hope for the best.
I have bought a set of 31x10.5x15 super sport m/t's from wally world for my 77 4x4. They handle decent onroad w/o much noise-even in wet conditions. I live on a farm and we got some pretty good gumbo here. They do pretty good. JM2C
