Truck starting trouble
Well i ended up buying that 1990 Ford F-250 that i posted a while ago, can't figure out how to post pics but when i do i'll get themup.....anways.
When i bought it from the guy he told me that sometimes i would have to lift "up" on the column shifter and it would start, every now and then it does that, but i told him to fix it and he said he did as it has a body lift etc. and he said that sometimes it would get loose and just needed some adjustment. Well, thats all fine and dandy but sometimes now i can't even do that and i have to drop it into neutral and then back into park to start her. Well i am wondering why this is and what ways i have to go about fixing it because i really would rather not do this every time. Someone said something about a bad neutral saftey switch or something but i dunno, just curious if you guys know whts going on....

I just did a body lift on mine and had the same thing. I believe what is happening is that the tranny is not going all the way into park. Does the column shifter still line up? By this I mean when you put it in drive, is it actually in drive? When I finished mine, drive was actually somewhere between neutral and drive. Very easy to fix. Just get it into park where you can start it with out lifting the column shifter. Then go under the truck and adjust the shift lever accordingly. Not sure if this helps, but I sure hope so.

It is a pretty simple fix as mike said. Just loosen the nut on the shift lever. It is on a bracket with a linkage to the shifter and one on the tranny. The lever is on a slide mechanism that will slide up and down. I think you should probably loosen the nut and then push the shifter (to the cab) all the way up, ie the bolt all the way down. That will probably give you the most range. Does this make any sense? Maybe it will when you look at it.
