Extend the Warranty or Not?

There's NO WAY you bought Ford's extended bumper-to-bumper warranty for that price. (If you did, then the dealer made a HUGE mistake, and you've got the deal of the century.) If it's an after-market warranty, then I'd cancel it and get your money back. These companies go out of business on a regular basis, at which point the warranty isn't worth the paper it's printed on. Not to mention the hassles of trying to get them to honor it while it is still good. There ain't enough band-width here to list all the horror stories I've experienced with these things. Ford's warranty is more money, but if you're not going to buy the factory's, then I'd keep my money in the bank.

This is what I am going to do. I did not bite on the ESP when the dealer offered it. I wanted to think on it a while. I am still thinking. I decided to wait until 12 months/12K miles gets closer($100 more after that). I have had the truck only a month/850 miles. So far I have had no problems. Will see what happens down the road. Right now I have no clue how long I will keep it. This will factor in how much plan I buy. When I do, I will go with a Ford plan.

I would never purchase an extended factory warranty because I have very little confidence the dealers around here (Houston) could or would properly complete the majority of repairs. This is well founded based on my past experiences. The way I see it $1,500 will buy a significant amount of repairs at a quality private mechanic. Just my $0.02.

My warranty is through Premier Dealer Services, Inc. in San Diego. I have a $50 deductible and my plan covers everything bumper to bumper. 84 months and 100,000 miles. Again I have the option to cancel before 60 days for a full refund minus a $25 service charge. I also can transfer the warranty with sale or request to be paid a prorated refund of the unused warranty length.
