Question Extend the Warranty or Not?

I added the 7 year 100,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty which cost $1495. I have sixty days to decide if I want to cancel inorder to get all my money back. Is it worth keeping it?

i would say yes if you plan on keeping it for 7 years...doesn't sound like a bad price at all. Not to me anyway

yes extend it since it is a new model and design and if you can stretch the miles you drive a year .also it will add value and confidence to the next owner if you decide to sell it before 7 yrs as long as you can transfer it

There's NO WAY you bought Ford's extended bumper-to-bumper warranty for that price. (If you did, then the dealer made a HUGE mistake, and you've got the deal of the century.) If it's an after-market warranty, then I'd cancel it and get your money back. These companies go out of business on a regular basis, at which point the warranty isn't worth the paper it's printed on. Not to mention the hassles of trying to get them to honor it while it is still good. There ain't enough band-width here to list all the horror stories I've experienced with these things. Ford's warranty is more money, but if you're not going to buy the factory's, then I'd keep my money in the bank.

So how much is Ford's extended warranty? And at what point can you purchase one? Any time before 36K/3Yr expires?

This is what I am going to do. I did not bite on the ESP when the dealer offered it. I wanted to think on it a while. I am still thinking. I decided to wait until 12 months/12K miles gets closer($100 more after that). I have had the truck only a month/850 miles. So far I have had no problems. Will see what happens down the road. Right now I have no clue how long I will keep it. This will factor in how much plan I buy. When I do, I will go with a Ford plan.

I would never purchase an extended factory warranty because I have very little confidence the dealers around here (Houston) could or would properly complete the majority of repairs. This is well founded based on my past experiences. The way I see it $1,500 will buy a significant amount of repairs at a quality private mechanic. Just my $0.02.

I originally wasn't going to get it but the finance manager stated that if I didn't use it I can go back to the dealership at the end of the term and they will write me a check for the amount I paid for the extended warranty. So I figured why not.

My warranty is through Premier Dealer Services, Inc. in San Diego. I have a $50 deductible and my plan covers everything bumper to bumper. 84 months and 100,000 miles. Again I have the option to cancel before 60 days for a full refund minus a $25 service charge. I also can transfer the warranty with sale or request to be paid a prorated refund of the unused warranty length.

DashTrash-
That's a lot- what model do you have? Is it 2WD or 4x4? How many miles do you have on the truck, and what deductible did they figure?

I just got a '04 XLT, SCab, 5.4L, 2WD, Trailer Tow Pack. I've got 660 miles on it and it was a $50 deductible.
