Delayed Reverse Engagement
Hello all,
I have a 1996 Aerostar that has a reverse problem. When I shift it into reverse, it sometimes (not all of the time) slips and shutters. When it happens (more frequently now) the OD light flashes. This has been going on now for about 30K miles and now it is getting real bad. I know that Aerostars have had problems with a delayed reverse engagement before. I remember drilling a valve body spacer plate hole bigger to cure the same problem in a 1987 Aerostar A4LD. I'll be pulling this trans soon to rebuild it becuase of 3rd gear slipping. I don't think the reverse problem is related to the slipping third gear as that problem just began to occur. Sticking solenoid? Sticking valve? I'll be in the states on vacation soon and I plan to pick up a rebuild kit. Suggestions? Any ideas to fix the reverse problem? Thanks in advance. -Joe
