Losing power on a 1994 F350 PowerStroke

Howdy,

Today I lost power and my truck died. I was thinking the fuel pump was out cause it felt like there was no gas in the engine. I switched tanks, started it back up, nothing. Just sat and idled, no matter how far I pushed down the accelerator. After several minutes of creeping along at 5 miles an hour it fired right up and took off. I later started it with no problem.

No smoke comes out when I'm running it so I think the valves are fine. The fuel pumps can't be it cause it idled in the driveway for 30 minutes with no problem.

I'm thinking it's the fuel filter (haven't replaced it in 40K miles) and am headed to replace it now.

Is there ANYTHING else I should look for?

Thanks,

Wheeler

Physically check the air filter too. Don't rely on the filter minder.

I second the filter minder unreliability. I drive a 3406E Cat that has one and it will show just over 10 inches of vacuum even when the filter is almost choked off.
