Have you tried it when stopped? See how long it takes then. I used to have a chevy that was not push button, but didn't engage right away. It would finally catch with a bang a while later. The transmission shop said to stop and let it engage since it takes time for the engagement mechanism in the front to work. This saved on damage. I don't have a newer ford, so I can't say whether or not this is normal. I am just saying that it sounds similar to a problem I had, which ended up being no problem at all. Ted
