99 7.3 Power stroke turbo diesel-- poor fuel milage

I have a 99 F250 Super Duty, automatic with the 370 rear ratio. I have been quite dissapointed with fule milage and hope someone may have a suggestion. Pulling my 8800 lb. camper we average around 7 mpg., with a much smaller trailer only 1800 lb. it averages 12 mpg. and empty only about 14-15 mpg. These are all Interstate highway miles and averages. HELP.

How fast are you driving your truck when towing? A significant drop off in mileage occurs at about 65 - 70. I tow a 7000# travel trailer and get about 14 - 15, and solo I get about 17 when going 70. When I go about 60 I gain about 2 mpg. This is on a new 99.5 with about 3000 miles.

Lee I also have A 99 F-250 4x2 supercab with an automatic trans. I have A 3.73 diff. factory air filter and I get A constant 21 to 22 miles per gal. I in fact drove from corpus christi texas to carlsbad california 3,000 miles roundtrip, speed limit was 75 I set my cruise on 82 mph. I got 18 mpg. each fillup. My truck has 56K miles on it, and I have A log of every gal. of fuel milage date and the town, so I can keep tabs on the fuel purchased. I tow A 30 foot travel trailer that weighs 11,000 to 11,500 loaded and I get 10 to 10 1/2 mpg. at 70 miles per hour without headwinds, I can get 13 mpg. in california where the speed limit is 55 for A towed vehicle. I feel you should do much better, I did not do well until I had 3,550 miles on the truck at that time my fuel milage increased noticeably. I hope you get yours going better.

When I noticed my mileage getting bad, I realized I hadn't drained the water from the fuel in awhile. That should be done every month, and you will likely notice quite a difference if you haven't already drained it.

Depending on where you are, don't forget about the blended winter fuel. Less performance from blended fuel.
