4 Wheeler Mag sais Chevy engines are best

Has anyone read that article in 4 Wheeler Magazine, about why Chevy has better engines than Ford. I dont have it in front of me, but I think that say Chevy wins because of the horsepower war. I think they claimed that the 6.0 has 105 hp more than the 5.4 base engine found in 3/4 ton and 1 ton trucks. They also claim that Chevy engines are more durable and more efficient than Ford engines. The next article down from that one, which was written by a different author, claimed that Super Dutys were the best trucks in their class.
I think we need to write a couple of letters to 4 Wheeler Magazine.

opinions are like *********s, everyone has one and they usually stink...magazines are no different, just a better forum for one's opinion. I have had better luck with Ford engines than Chevy engines.

The opinion in that magainze was from a large intestines point of view. Why couldn't they have compared it to the 6.8 Liter which is 10 horsey more. It's funny because these wackos had to compare a bigger engine to a smaller engine and in fact now the the 5.4 and the GM 6.0 are boosting out the same 300 Hp. It's funny, it sound like a bunch of crap to me and someone out there is hating on ford

These wackos are comparing the two engines because they are both used in the same class; the 6.0 is the base engine for the chevy 2500, the 5.4 is the base engine for the F-250. The 6.0 used to be used in the 1500HD models for chevy until 04 and are still in the Sierra Denali 1500 and Ford uses the 5.4 in their F-150. So it's almost a no brainer to compare the two engines. Also I think the 03 6.0 for the 1500 churned out somewhere around 330 hp and more torque, but I'm not positive(I saw it on a thread a while ago)

Hey I dont neen no magazine to tell me about whose engine is best or more durable. Ive experienced it first hand. As far as poweer goes. Ford has the choices in engines to suit everybodies need. Ford engines not durable to me thats there trademark to me. Ive experienced there durability firsthand. Hey its just onmans opinion. Like that article is. Ive always liked 4 wheeler magazine. They feature more ford trucks than anything. They always feature tons of superduties.and 150s.

If the chevys really do have more hp for a given engine size (which is doubtful IMO), they must be running hotter cams. This means that all they're doing is increasing their power at high revs, sacrificing low end torque. After driving my dad's 2000 silverado with the 4.8L V8, it definately feels like that's what they did. Hit the gas and downshift, and it'll get up and go. Lower rpms, forget it. Whereas the engines in my 2 Fords, ('92 explorer with 4.0L, and '70 F-100 with 360) are low rpm stump pullers. I can go up hills and everything with the explorer in overdrive at 1500rpm. The 360 is the essential stump puller. Runs out of wind at about 4000rpm, but is a brute on low end.

As for reliability, what's going to be more reliable? A low rpm stump puller, or a cammed up high rpm screamer? I think we all know the answer to that. Remember, RPM = Ruins People's Motors.

As for 4 Wheeler mag, well, they can kiss my..., never mind.

Too Much

You guys are reading way too Much into this.. If you pay attention to the argument.. (there are several arguments in that issue, such as IFS vs solid axle, etc).. There are simply two opposing views, One WHo Views IFS as superior over Solid axles, etc...
One Who Views Chevrolet over Ford, which is met by the opposing view of Ford over chevy to the extent of the famous super duty.. Its Just guys having fun writing articles.. and the 105 hp I read also, which is obviously A typo even when comparing the OLD 5.4 to the 6.0..
Anyway, it's the time honored tradition of Chevy vs Ford and will go on until the end of time.. Until then, Most people I know PERSONALLY enjoy having fun taking jabs at one another when their Ford Conquers an off-road Obstacle that the Chevy Didnt, or the Chevy had to pull the ford out of the Hole it Just went through. It's all In Fun in real Life and most people Care Less about what someone else is driving and Help accordingly if needed no matter the brand.

Ktmguy70 i agree, long time ago brand names didnt matter to folks who drove them, it didnt matter how they perform either they drove what they could afford. Ive been around trucks through all my life, ive experience worst disasters in both brands Ford and Chevy to me there just trucks no different from any other, i like chevy trucks you guys like fords this year in 2004 ford shined then any other brand then next year chevy then ford and so on both trucks bring out great competition towards each other.

Chevy vs Ford the rivalry will go on forever and then you have to add dodge in the mix.

As with comparing horsepower from the 6.0 Vortec and the 5.4 triton, i know the 5.4 Liter is pushing 300 horses compared to the 6.0 Vortec pushing around 300 horses, now i think GM is pushing the 6.0 Vortec to 325 or 330 same as with the 8.1L Big Block Vortec next year and also messing around the idea of pushing more torque out of the Duramax Diesel, i know for sure that the 5.3L will be pushing 310 Horsepower now im stating the facts that i got from my local chevy dealership im not braggin just speaking for myself as a chevy guy like you guys put it from chevy guy to ford guy. No Harm No Faul

Im a retired GM mechanic just got to old for lifting heavy parts and stuff, but i like the site. I have an old buddy of mine who still works at a Chevy and GMC Dealership he just tells me whats going on in the automotive industry and stuff. I like old model 70's trucks there easy to work on and dont have to worry about taking it into the shop to get fix, rite now im working on a 1979 Ford F-150 Custom and im almost done with it i just got the motor to install.

Yeh these trucks anymore are sure getting complicated. With computers and everything pretty technical. Hey I hope you enjoy the site. A lot of great people on here. People on this site do a little bashing on other brands including myself. Dont take it personally. Were just talkin trucks not people. Good luck on your truckproject.
