ford did not make a 4bbl intake for a 400?

They told me on another thread that they did not make a cast iron 4bbl intake for a 400 is that true? What about a 351m? We all know if they made on for the 351m than it will work on my 400. In the mud bogs I want to run in you cant have an aftermarket anything on your motor. I have a Edelbrock Performer 400 Non-EGR 4bbl intake and a Edelbrock 600 cfm 4bbl carb. I want to run street stock but have to have cast iron and a ford or holly carb. Did ford make a 4bbl intake for a 400?

Nope, sometimes they will make an exception for that engine if the chevy guys aren't too afraid of it.

You can run a 351C with a 4V intake and heads.

I thought about that but those spacers are "aftermarket"...

"if the chevy guys aren't too afraid of it."
thats why the 351C 4v is banned from a lot of local dirt tracks.

351c 4v intake?

So you guys are saying a 351c 4v intake will fit on my 400? With spacers? How would you put spacers on an intake without it leaking air or oil?

The spacers fit between the intake and the heads with gaskets between the intake and the spacers and sealant between the spacers and the heads. The manifold ends are also sealed with spacers and sealant.

They were made by Weiand (WEI-8205), but I have heard that they do not make them anymore. You might be able to find a set in someones stock. They are for 2V heads, but they can be enlarged to match 4V heads.

I have a pair of the head spacers set up for 4V heads, but I no longer have the end spacers, and your heads are 2V heads.

I also have 351C-4V closed chambered heads.

I just checked Summit, they list the Weiand Spacers as not available.
JEGS also list them as not available. I searched Ebay and came up empty. I did a Google search for Weiand 8205 and came up with this website.

It may be of interest.

Here is a site that claims to have the weiand spacers.

http://www.carshopinc.com/product_in..._id/56833/8205

Another approach is to cut a 351C-4V intake in half and spread it apart to fit the distance between the 400 heads, then fill in the gap. I believe this was done somewhere, but I am sure it takes a lot of skill. If the heads that it mates to were 351C-4V heads, you would have one hell of a Chevy killer.

It's starting to sound like I should just find a 351c 4v and drop it in the old girl. My 400 is getting worn out anyway. Will it bolt up to a c6? I want to build a 460 but I really don't have the time and need to be able to drive the truck mon-fri. I really need a good strong stock (stock looking anyway) motor. You see what the problem is that the class after the street stock class you can do anything to the motor but only run 33 inch tires. So the big boys can thro 33's on their trucks and blow my doors off.
And about the chevy killer, I'm a die hard ford truck man but around here chevy's are very very strong when it comes to the guys who have the money to play. I really don't think a 351c will do. I'm thinking a 514 or bigger will have to be built.
Thanks for all the info. I will keep it in mind.

You can use the 351C-4V heads on a 400 motor and it can outperform a 460. The only problem is the 400 manifold will not fit the 4V heads, and it is only a 2V manifold anyway. The 351C-4V manifold won't reach across the valley on a 400, so you need spacers, but they are not stock. So you need some way to make a 4V manifold reach across the valley and look stock. Cutting the 351C-4V manifold in half will work if it is a single plane intake, but a stock 351C single plane intake will be a rare item. Another approach is to convert a stock 400 manifold to a 4V by machining off the 2V mounting flange and welding on a 4V flange. This will work for 2V heads, more work will need to be done for 4V heads. I am sure that I saw an article where something like this was done, I have been searching for it.

I wish I could do something like that lol. I'm doing good to cut paper in half and get it back together right again lol. I have been checking out all the stuff you have showed me thanks again. I'm saving it all for future reference. I am now looking for this stuff on ebay and traders and such.
Thanks again
