Question about milage and diesels.
Greetings, first time post for me. Since I'm in the market for a ford, it won't be my last, I'm sure.
Anyway, I'm wondering how many miles one can get out of a 92 7.3L diesel. The truck I'm looking at is a 1992 F250 and it has about 80K miles. People tell me these engines will go 400K easy if you take care of them. Was Ford putting Internationals in back then?
At any rate, I'll most likely only keep this rig for a year or so. So is 80K safe?

Realistically you can get anywhere from 200,000 to 300,000 miles before you need an entire rebuild. The top end must be serviced every 150,000 to achieve full compression and power. This is normal for diesels to require top end service. You also need to run a DCA or SCA in the antifreeze to protect the motor against cavitation. I would say go for it, with only 80k miles you are good to go.
