service codes

I just bought a 1999 F250 Powerstroke with 60k on it. I had it one week when the ABS light came on and the next day the overdrive "off" light started flashing. I took it to the garage and they put it on the computer and found no codes. Has anyone ever run across this before? This is my wife's truck and I want it fixed before she drives it. Please help. Tim

Take it to another garage that has an OBDII scantool. Make sure the mechanics know what they are doing. The codes will be there somewhere. You can buy a code book from autozone. Haynes is the publisher.

Also make sure that ABS sensors are not unplugged or have any kind of dirt on them.

It turned out the reason the computer did not show a code was a blown fuse, the problem was the speed sensor on the rear end.

LAST EDITED ON 19-Jun-01 AT 05:10 AM (EST)[p]I had an '88 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe that I bought new and not too long after I got it the ABS light would come on for no apparent reason. Every time I took it in to the dealer to get it fixed, when they would get in it to verify the complaint, the light would be off (making me look like a complete idiot). So I got a factory electrical manual and a complete electrical schematic and found all the grounds for the ABS system, unscrewed them one by one, sanded the paint off the body in that area with emery cloth, screwed them back on, and it never came on again (except when it was supposed to) as long as I owned it.
