Fed Tax

I was very interested in cooking up my own biosiesel, but my plans came to a screaming halt after I spoke to a couple people. Even when you make your own diesel, once you get on public highway you are required to pay the federal tax on your fuel (~.50 on diesel). That would cost me $50 per 100gallon batch. Can anyone confirm this? It seems perfectly logical.

yes your supposed pay the tax on it, but most don't. You can prolly get ahold of your state somehow and find out how to pay the road tax on a green fuel. How and where I don't know.

If you use it as a fuel additive then no tax. At least that's what I have heard. I think, and don't quote me on it as it pure conjecture, that's why some stations are selling B99. The 1% is taxable fuel and the rest is non-taxable additive. LOL.

There is also a tax credit involved, though I don't know the details.

Everything great. I've got just under 30,000 miles on the F-250 since I converted in May 2004. Absolutely no problems running vegoil. It's going so well that I converted a Volkswagen TDI for my wife to drive.

I read over the whole thread here, but are you running just the filterd oil in the truck? Your not making it actual biodiesel are you? (with meth and lye).

I'm debating what to do, I found an affordable price on a kit to make biodiesel, which is more work but less clutter on the truck, I kind of need my full bed since I do landscaping and haul mulch and other material all the time.

What are your thoughts on filtering the oil really well (letting it sit for a couple weeks then filter and wash the oil) and then just mixing it 50/50 or some ratio with diesel? Think there would be problems? I have dual tanks so I could always leave the rear tank straight diesel and switch to that for start/stop time.

I was looking at the stuff from biodieselwarehouse. But I'm not going to make biodiesel at the moment, just running a 75%/25% mix of WVO/diesel for now, in the winter I'm going to start making biodiesel when i have time.

Just a quick update,.. The Veg Powered System so far is running fabulous. I've actually had about a 7/10ths (so far, seems to keep clicking up gradually but the computer won't reset for me) improvement in mileage. System is connected with bypassed coolant lines into the tank to heat the veg before entering the seperate pump and filter system. Takes about 10-15 miles on diesel to heat the veg enough to pump stress free, and as long as you aren't stopping for too long (more than a few hours) you can stay switched to veg. If it ain't hot yet it bogs a little under power, but once hot... performance no different so far from diesel.
'Cept it is a little quieter... Truck is listed in the gallery as "Pinki"

I live in San Diego, so I drove up to Ojai, CA, just north of Los Angeles. I don't think they are at the stage of user installations yet. It took 3 days to install, and they run a lot of testing to make sure everything is top notch. They are truly a professional crew, and will take the time to ensure you know everything you need to know about your system, from where and how to get the oil to basic and some advanced maintenance, as well as explain the hows and whys of their premium system design. Give Joel a call, and I'm sure he'll be more than happy to answer any questions you have. He's a remarkable man, and an awesome mechanic with prolly close to 40 years experience with diesels and he is incredibly dedicated to the future of this industry. Good Luck.!

my problem is.. where do you get enough used oil form if not from the big chains?? since i believe there is some liability w/ them.

also how do you pour it into your tank?? do you take it home in 5 gallon buckets than pump it up???
thanks alot.
