I am looking at a 1988 F350 XLT CC LB 7.3L NT 5OD Dually.
It's faded, a little surface rust, a tad rough but repairable and has fifth wheel mounted. Worst is busted up right fender extention and cracked windshield.
$3995....to high? I may be able to get it down around $3K. If I go after it(and the wife lets me keep my head) I'm starting around $2K.
I'm not looking for mileage but what can I expect from a truck like this?
Find out if the cooling system has been taken care of. These motors are prone to getting holes in the cylinders from lack of cooling system additives. Find out if it is loosing water, might be why they want to sell it. Also look for evidence of a motor swap as many of these motors have already died and been replaced. If so, hopefully it was a reman instead of another junk yard motor.
These motors are expensive to replace, so it's in your best interest to check these things out.
Thanks Spectramac, as this would be my first diesel if I go for it I plan to give it a good going over.
I've been going thru this forum and found the info I was looking for as to mileage, power and repairs so I feel comfortable that way.
But now a '64 F250 has appeared and I need to look at it.
