diesel tach
Does anyone know how to test the diesel tach on an 85 6.9. I believe it has a magnetic pickup, but it doesen't work. I've got no voltage or impedance or anything on it. Am I correct in thinking that there is a break in the coil? Thanks for any replies.

It is indeed a coil type pickup.
The teeth of the Inj. Pump gear act as a tone wheel, and the pulses generated are amplified and drive the tachometer.
If there isn't any resistance reading (open), then there is DEFINITELY a problem with the pickup. Replace it.
