1998 Ford OEM Cassette replace with OEM CD?

Hello,

I am new here. Just bought a 1998 Ford F150 XLT Supercab 4x4. Nice site and I already have a question. The Truck came with the Facotry RAdio/Cassette unit. . . My wife wants the Radio/CD Factory unit. If I buy a Factory unit (Ford OEM) is it as easy as just taking the one that is currently in the truck now out and just plugging in the new Ford OEM CD player? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Yes, it is. Providing you get one without the premium sound system (has factory amplifier), then it's just plug and play.

Look for the connections on the back. If non premium there will be only two connections. Otherwise, it is a simple plug and play.

Second to remove the radio, go to wal-mart and buy the removal tools. They are only a couple dollars and well worth it. To get it out, remove the bezel around the radio and ac controls by gently prying on it and it will "pop" loose. Now the air bag control switch is mounted to it and so is the 4wd if equiped, so go slow and either lay it aside or disconnect air bag switch.

Insert removal tools and pull out. You can use nails or a coat hanger instead, but its kinda difficult and you can mess up the pins.
