fuel economy?
I just bought a 1999 F-350 4x4 crew cab long bed with 32,000 miles. It has a 6 speed manual and a 7.3 powerstroke, with 3:73
axle ratio. I drive 50% highway and 50% city. I don't drive like an idiot and I'm only getting 12 miles per gallon!?
I know the truck is huge and heavy but 12mpg? Can anyone PLEASE tell me that its suppsed to be better than that? Any ideas?
I'm also a little disappointed with the power. I lose 5 miles per hour going up hills unless I stand on the gas (so I suffer the speed loss rather than watch the fuel gauge drop).

Welcome to the 12 to 13 MPG club, I have a F350 crew, 2000 PSD with an automatic transmission and I receive the same fuel mileage as you !!! I have not been able to increase my personal mileage and I purchased the truck new with 4 miles on the odometer. The only direction or comfort that I can offer is that you’re not alone. Also, don’t waste your time and save your money, don’t bother going to the dealer for help, they will be of none!!!
If you review some of the dated messages on this board you will find that some “Chips” enhance fuel economy 1 to 3mpg. I personally have not invested in one but I do plan on adding the “Pro-Shot “ kit from Western Diesel. This kit runs around $2500.00 and ads mileage, performance and torque.
Best luck with your PSD….

If neither of you are using Performance Formula fuel additive, try it for at least a month and track your mileage. My mileage increased far more than the cost of the additive, plus you get the waxing inhibitors, biocide, and injection system lubricants to boot. I was skeptical about the claims, but I'm now a believer - 4 MPG worth, tracked over 3 months.
