Fatsid,
Update on my steering wheel vibration, Last Thursday I had a ford engineer visit my dealer to look at my truck, he looked at wheel's and ballance, alignment, drive shafts and axles. He did not find anything and had the shop change the rack again, still have the problem, Ford called the engineer and the service manager yesterday then called me to inform me that thair report will be filed to state all attempts have failed to repair the problem,
It looks like ford is going to replace my truck under the lemon law. I sure hope that is true. I'm sick of driving this loaner car, and it is due for a oil change!

Bad News, Ford said No! they will not replace the truck, I will have to go to the board with it, my service manager is behind me 100% and is going to call this ford rep's superviser and give them a push, I'll let you know what the outcome is.

It sounds like it may be a widespread problem, and would be fodder for other owners to seek recourse. I have noticed a very slight vibration in the steering wheel at around 72 mph, less at higher or lower speed. Is this the same condition? The truck only has 350 miles on it, so is it going to get worse?

Yes, it started around 65-70 for me and looked like a ballance isue, but nothing would fix it, My bet is it will get worse, ask your dealer about the TSB for a steering wheel nibble ( it's A bite if you ask me) The fix is to perform a wheel ballance with the Hunter equipment first, then replace the steering rack, the rack is a date isue problem. I just contacted a lawyer and decided to S@#* the IDS board, If Ford wanted a Informal Settlement thay would have replaced the truck. We have a law firm here in the MD. PA area that will go after the lemon law for anyone for FREE, I guess thay love sticking it to the big guys. Good luck

RRobey, just an FYI....

I doubt you can sue the DSB board. They are not Ford employees, and in fact they are unpaid volunteers trying to help the consumer. It is Ford Motor Company who you would sue.

Also I believe PA laws states that you must first go through the manufacturer's dispute process before you can pursue the Lemon Law. But I think MD allows you to pursue the Lemon Law without going through the dispute process. So if you're going straight to the Lemon Law with an attorney, I'd do it in MD. The other nice thing about MD is that you only need to give Ford one chance to repair a braking or steering problem before they are required to buy it back.

My vibration has gotten progressively worse, starting at new, now through 4000 miles. The vibration can now be felt at ALL speeds.

My vib started from new. It was small at first and I thought it was just a wheel balance problem, no big deal huh? Well then I had the wheels balanced - no difference. Decided to go aftermarket on the tires and rims cause maybe a rim is bent, didnt help. Now I have new tires and still a vib that just seems to get worse as time goes on. Ford didnt even have the road force balancer they had to send me to chevy dealer. Now if you know that a (whatever) percentage of trucks has a vib problem wouldnt you require all dealers to get one of these hunter machines?? Anyhow I have found the Ford dealer to be not very customer friendly in my opinion. Well let me put it to you this way, I havent bought it yet but there is a dakota in the parking lot.

I'm taking it to have "rail dust" cleaned from the paint next week. I'll take the service manager for a ride and make sure he understands, and have them pull the TSBs. Thanks for the advice.

Just currious, when did you guys buy your trucks? Is this a problem that could apply to recent orders or purchases? or has Ford done something to correct this?

Thanks.

Wheel Shake

This is most interesting.
I took a test drive at a local dealer in a new 2wd lariat and i noticed
a strong shake in the steering wheel at about 65-70 on the highway that
seemed to come and go during the 10 miles or so i drove it.....
I took it back and told the salesman and he said it was probably
from the truck sitting too long.
I laughed and told him he needed to sell them faster so that wouldn't
happen.

I ended up going 198 miles south to actually buy the truck i wanted and
insisted on driving it 10 miles too to see if this was a widespread problem.....
i detected no shake at any speed and bought the truck.

Now you guys have me scared. Is the dreaded shake going to haunt
my truck too? I'm scared because I absolutely LOVE this truck.......

I am concerned about the shakes. I just thought the other day. What about the brake rotors? You might have a defective rotor that causes the shakes. I don't know but just a thought.

I too just bought an 04 F150 S Cab and have a vibration. I took the truck to ford to have checked out and they told me the truck sat too long that it would straighten out if I put about a 1000 miles on the tires. So I figured I would research the prob. and came across this site... Time to have the wheels road fource tested.
