yeah it gets really hot around here and i heard from 2 mechanis that 20-40 is the best bet for hot weather in truks and in motorcycles. what do you folks think?
20W-40 is an obsolete grade that I havent seen in 20 years. 15W-40 is pretty much the replacement. Shell Rotella T 15W-40 is very popular in motorcyles and I would use it without hesitation in older truck engines, not in a new one under warranty that requires 5W-20. Chevron Delo 400 is my favorite oil in that grade.
i know, i was just letting him know that there is a 20w50 as another option and that might be what they were talking about or at least close. but yea 20w40 is obsolete
The motorcyle-specific oils I have seen are 10W-40 for Japanese bikes or 20W-50 for Harleys. They cost more just because they are "specialty" products.
well its for a bike. they only reccomend using 20-40 for hot weather instead of 15-40. would it hurt anything if i used 15-40? yamaha wants 4 bucks a quart for the stuff. i have only seen 20-40 in the yamaha dealer and no where else. i dont want to screw up my bike with a different weight of oil they didnt reccomend. yamaha wants 10W-30 in the winter and 20-40 in the summer.
