i was wondering if i would get much benefit from using propane on my 83 6.9
diesel and if its a good idea..
where can i find plans on how to make one for my truck that is safe?

also how much clearance should there be between the front leaf springs and the bump stop on 83 f-250 4x4 ??

and finally....
where can i get a used LSD/ Locker for danna 70 on same truck??

bullydog sells a kit for are trucks to bad they are not a sponser or none of the sponsers sell anything like that for are trucks.
from what ziggster said in his article I think its worth it.

There is a reason that the pro kits sell for as much as they do. One thing to keep in mind is that using a lp gill tank is a huge saftey risk. It will also get you in huge trouble if you are ever in an collision(Geting the crap sued out ya can't be worth it). Bullydogs system is junk especially for the money.I talked to a local lp dealer and get dot approved stuff. I just got off the phone with my local lp dealers supplier. He basiclly said to make sure you have a pyro on your motor before you do anything and to keep it legal. Alittle more money spent today can save you alot more later.

 

there are DOT approved injection kits? even tho im not lookin to convert mine just supplement it part time. are the "pro" kits dOT approved for that much $$$/?

I'd get a forklift style tank and brackets sounds cheaper and easier to change tanks about $150 and the lay down bracket is $82. I'd do the rest of the system by buying the parts somewhere else but I guess a local lp dealer could set you up pretty well mine told me around 600 total but the system is designed for farm tractor they called a mechanical red roster(acme is the supplier up in Minnesota). After my talk with him my plans on doing all of this are going to be put on hold. sorry to be giving all this info in bits but I have been pretty buzy and have too much on the the old mind.

 

Getting the crap sued out of you would be lots better than being dead.
Grill style tanks floating around loose in an accident may get you dead.

 

Nogo, sounds good but thats to much for a tank and the ones that sit upright have much less risk of letting liquid propane from hose on down..
i believe most forklift use the liquid and have some evaporator / converter built in as they are !00% prop. no diesel..

well Dave, thanx for the info but yer gonna get sued no matter what if you have an accident. if its not the propane it somethin else.... besides i never said i would let the tank tumble arround unsecured or unprotected your assuming allot. you take risks far worse that that every day just driving arround anymore ( women drivin and talkin on cell phones is far riskier than propane setup) especilly the ones in highend SUV's!! hehe

I am a retired long haul truck driver.
After spending as much time on the highway as I have, you learn to assume anything is possible. Expect everything that is bad to be worst case senario.

Compairing the cost of a DOT approved tank to the value of my life....the DOT container is not even pocket change.

A DOT approved tank versus a grill tank, that is like compairing aluminum foil to 1/4" steel plate.

Ever seen a propane explosion or fire? That cell phone in her hand will not explode and kill both of you.

I have seen men do things just as stupid, maybe more so, as I have seen women do while driving.

Most accidents occur within 10 miles of where you live.

 

ya i keep hearing that 10 mile figure but dont know or never heard of any one that had a wreck that close to home.. anyway i was beiing sterotypical with the women comment a stab at humor.. and i havent seen or heard of a propane fire

 

sorry, got a question for pane on a turboed diesel...
Is it dangerous to run the propane beefore the turbo, or is it safe?

 

If its in the "suck zone " I would worry about it my n/a feels like a vacum right at the cold air intake.

Where else could you put it?

If it was after the turbo, what would you set the propane pressure at.
3 pounds for no boost or 15 pounds for 12 pounds of boost.
Either setting would be wrong when the boost was at any other pressure.

If you do not have it in the "suck zone" the propane will wind up out in the air instead of in the engine.

 

Im dredging this back up for a couple reasons......

1.)Ive been following it and am seriously considering doing it.
2.)they are all advertised as being for turbo diesels, what Im trying to figure here is if it really matters if its turbo or N/A, bully dog emailed me back and told me their kit would work on my N/A diesel (non ford but that hardly matters in this particular discussion)

any input on this (the turbo ?) guys????
