School Presentation

Ok, doing a presentation for my world geo class. I really need a good grade on this thing so i can get an A in the class. I was wondering if any of you remember any really creative ideas of getting the information accross, like playing games, microsoft power point, etc. were doing a presentation on Hong Kong, we need to talk about the culture, climate, population, history, etc. What would be the best way of presenting this information. Some have allready done jeapordy, and others have just read off a piece of paper (getting a 30/50 (not good!))

So if you can remember way back when you were in highschool, what kids did that you thought was creative, or what your kids are doing now, it would be a great help.

Humor (done tastefully) always keeps folks attention, especially a group full of kids/teens/young adults/whateveryoukidsliketobecalledthesedays!

If you go the PP route, don't glitz it up to much with wild and frequesnt screen transitions, flash graphics, etc... The rule of KISS applies for presentations (Keep it Simple, Stupid). Now, the BEST part of a presentation is the PRESENTER! Maintain eye contact with your audiance, speak clearly and for the love of god rehurse your material over and over and OVER AND OVER until you have it down cold. You can be completely inaccurate and full of BS, but if you deliver with confidence & a smile, you bet you'll get at least 30/50!! With good, accurate content you'll ace it for sure.

Just be prepared!

I would concentrate on the actual information before worrying about format. Powerpoint is great for presentations, but the actual information has to be good. I also agree with dzervit, delivery is 90%.

If you start talking about Diet Food Like Sushi.
Make sure you don't present it using a Sumo Wrestler

Nahh, i dont mind getting in front of a group and speaking, that doesnt bother me. what does is when i know i'm being boaring, i want to make it exciting, i was thinking of taking the information, and making it into tounge twisters, then having 2 students come up and see who could say them faster, like a competition, that would get the info across, and make it interesting, but it would be hard to turn the info into tounge twisters.

visual aids!!!! powerpoint is an excellent idea. a good opening is also key...a game or something to wake everyone up. also, gear your presentation towards your audience. by that i mean...spend some time incorporating how the youth of hong kong live. what is special about your age group in hong kong....what issues do teens deal with?...their values....social interactions...etc...etc. if your audience can't relate to the topic...they get bored real quick. combine that with quality content and delivery....and you'll have a winner. just my thoughts. good luck to ya.

Back when I was in high skool a friend of mine had to do a report on the "bible" for a church thingy and asked me to help (even though I dont believe in it).. So we mad a video using the Blues Brothers as a theme.. Instead of "the Band" it was "the book" It took us a couple of days but it was fun and he got an A+ for it...

If there is some way you could think of doing something like that it may help...Incorperate a modermovie into a video and have some friends help you it will keep it interesting and give yall some fun for a weekend

I agree with dzervit and patuka (mil1ion too, hehe).

If you have computer projectors, than do a powerpoint, if you dont have a computer projector, don't waste your time on the pp, as you don't want an entire class gathering around a computer monitor.

Good luck,
Stan

Learn about the different sections of Hong Kong. Learn a little about the money- when I visited several years ago, the exchange was about 7 HK Dollars to one US (of course, this means you dinner could cost $100!). There is a place called Stanley Market on the island that is a world famous outdoor market. A really neat place. And maybe you could incorporate some of the Chinese customs (I don't know if origami is just in Japan, but it would be interesting to do as a class). I would say that if you just steered away from the 'history' of the place, and concentrated on stuff most people have never heard about, you would see some success. Good luck.

Excellent Point! No projector or large TV - faggedaboutah! TVs work well, but test with the PC first to make sure it A. can output to S-video or composite, and B. Make sure the tv will handle the signal.

when I was in high school, they didn't have power point. Barely had Microsoft. If I were doing the project, I would go and find me somene from Hong Kong and bring them to class.

i agree with everyone above, we just did PPT presentations in my IT class, and its all about the presenter, one kid got up and couldnt speak worth a crap, and even had to be shown howto change slides. also, it may sond stupid whenever people say practice in front of the mirror, but trust me, it actually does help, gotta practice so you dont go up and stutter and pull out the "ummms" and "uhhhs". i also like to add humor too, you wont get a good grade if the teacher falls asleep.
