2002 F350 Smoking

My 2002 Power Stroke Smokes when I start it and has that diesel smell.
My 99 power stroke did not do this.I only have 3000 miles on it and dont think this is right. I took it to Ford and they said there is nothing wrong with it. I also feel that the 02 does not have the power the 99 did. Any help. Thanks

Hey!

I have a 2000 ext cab stroke with 20,000 miles and it smoked from the word go! I bought It in Jan in Michigan so it started right away. It only does it when it is cold30 or below. I as well took mine to the dealer and they said it was normal as well. As far as the smell....me too. Also the power.....we have an old 95 stroke in a 250 with a 5 speed and it seems to have had more get up and go! They had my truck at the dealer for 2 days and checked evrything! It is fine. They told me that ford may have just de-tuned them a bit through the years to meet emissions? So in short it is normal!

In contrast to your trucks, my personal 99 will whip the tires off the 97 I have at work. All diesels smoke some when cold due to unburned fuel from cold combustion chambers and temps. Ford also changed the compressor wheel in 99.5. The 99's had 10 vanes and the newer trucks have 9. Diesels=Smoke

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 31-Dec-01 AT 04:47 PM (EST)]For either 2000 or 2001 (I forget which) and later, they installed an intake air heater in the aluminum intake crossover to help this cold start smoking problem. You may want to take it in to Ford to make sure it is working (there is a second solenoid mounted in rubber grommets in front of the glow plug solenoid on the right bank head that operates it).

I have a 2001 F250 4x4 PSD and live in Florida. We just got a good cold snap (30 deg.)(OK cold for us southeners) and when I started my truck up a 5:30am I did not see any smoke. I let the truck run to warm up and after a couple of minutes the RPM's increased to 1000 and stayed there until I drove off 5 minutes later.
