My Lariat has a 7200 lb GVW and a 5.4L Triton with a 3.73LS gear. Go for it! You won't be disappointed! I'm curious why you want the 3.55 rear end? My rig gets about 16.5 all-around MPG and has plenty of power. The difference between the 4.6 and the 5.4 is only about 1 MPG in my experience. I like the bigger motor for occasional towing. JMHO.....

the prevailing opinion seems to be that the difference in mpg between the 4.6 and the 5.4 is minor and if you want a rig for towing I would go with the 5.4

Thumbs up 5.4 Liter 3.55 axle ratio

5.4 liter is the only way to go. The 3.55 axle ratio gets you 15 additional miles on a tank of gas and it still has a very hefty tow rating.

I had an 99 f-150 with the 4.6. Switched to the 5.4 in 02 and have the 5.4 in the 04. Go with the 4.6 you will not notice the MPG.

The engine is 800 dollars more, and my 4.6 w/ 3.73LS tows flawlessly, that means i can buy 800 dollars in accessories, gas, something else?

$800 Gas = More than 13 empty to full fillups @ 2.20/gal

But my 800 went to lowering the vehicle
