1961 F-500 swap in the 4.9L or the 5.9L??

I want to up grade this F-500 as it is going to Remain On my fleet for a Good many year's..I'll be hualing 2-4ton's on averag with this truck.

Stock drive line:

223-I6,4spd trans,5.45 gear's,and 7.50-20's.

Drive line option 1!:
300-I6,4spd,5.45 gear's,and 9.00-20's.

Drive line option 2!:
Built 300-I6,5spd OD trans,5.45gear's,and 9.00-20's.

Drive line option 3!:
5.9L Turbo Diesel,5spd OD trans,5.45 gear's,and 10.00-20's.

Def. use a 5-speed, it will help the motor pull the weight around a lot easier. As far as having a reliable engine, you can't go wrong with either the 300 or the 5.9, but I would use the 300, it would be easier to keep cool and easier to drop in than a Cummins.

I didn't have the 7.3l as an option unpurpose.
I dislike V-8 Diesel's..........

if it ain't an inline6 turbo diesel i won't touch it.

I'll prolly throw a beefed up 300-I6 in it for now then upgrade to the cummins when i have more momey and time.........

unless the 223-I6 hold's long enough then i might just swap in the diesel.......
But i will altimately run the diesel.....
it's just a matter of when.
i just would like to know what all in general what i might need............

My vote would sure be for that Cummins. That is the powerplant I was thinking of for my F-800. What do you have in the truck now? I think maybe a 361 or a 391 would be a good gas alternative but you may want to stay with inline 6s. Good Luck
