Talking How To Modify A Mass Air housing

Hi everyone
I have a 347 HO stroker I am going to put into my 1987 F-250. I have a mass air conversion kit on the truck at this time with a stock 5.0 engine. I purchased some 24lb injectors and was wondering how to modify my mass air housing for the new injectors or do I need to have the computer recalibrated or is a performance chip is needed? The specs on the engine setup are as follows

Kieth Black KB366 dished pistons
9:1 to 1 compression ratio
61mm throttle body
Stock intake
E7TE heads ported with 1.9 int and 1.6 ext valves and double springs
Crane energizer 7/16 roller rockers
Isky roller towing cam Part#: 371252/257, 1200 to 5000 rpm range
Stock fuel except 24lbs injectors.
Stock exhaust that will be opened up using a die grinder

Any suggestions would help point me in the right direction will be greatly appreciated

It is not the housing that needs to be modified, it is the sensor itself and you'll probably have to get a new one since Pro-M does not recalibrate other MAF sensors anymore.
In many cases a chip is needed to dial in the transfer function with the new injectors and air meter.

Thanks for the info. I'll check out the sponsors here for the chip and mass air sensor.

Does anyone know where I can get a mass air sensor for 24lb injectors. I looked at some other forums and they say you can use a 1993 Tbird SC mass air sensor.

I have had a bad experience with a recalibrated air meter. I think the best thing to do is to get a chip for the computer to compensate with the injector flow coefficient instead of a recalibrated air meter. The recalibrated air meters trick the computer into thinking that less air is going into the engine, so it doesn't inject as much fuel - this part works, but it also advances in more timing than the engine needs, so it will likely spark knock like crazy. Having said that, you can get Pro-M mass air meters from www.ampperformance.com for a good price. They were the chapest I found for new air meters. eBay is also a pretty good place to find air meters.

IMO...I wouldn't touch a used/aftermarket air meter unless it came with a flowsheet.

For something like this, you'd be better off buying it new.

Thumbs up

Thanks for the info. i will get a chip for the computer. Any suggestions on the best value for the money Chip, Diablo, Venom ECT?

Also does the larger displacement compensate for the larger injectors, probably not for mass air, but I had to ask

It's not so much the chip as it is the tune or tuner. With your combo I think a Dyno Tune would be a great way to dial in your combo. The tuner guy tuner guy can log information on each run and make the necessary changes on the spot. Most mail order chip tuners can get you pretty close, but be prepared to send it back....sometimes they nail it on the first try, and sometimes they don't.

Blurry, you make a good point with the used air meters. I'm sending mine off to get recalibrated sometime in the next few weeks. I'm nervous getting it calibrated for 24 lb injectors again, afraid it will do the same as before, so I'm planning on going with stock 19 lb calibration. I may give the tech support folks an email or something as well, because it seems like it should work since all the mustang boys are running recal'd air meters. When you buy new, you know for sure it has the calibration you want.

Besides Pro M for mass air sensors, does anyone know of a 24lb calibrated mass air sensor I can go buy at the local parts store.

I think vehicles that used stock 24 lb injectors used the same air meter. The change in injector size was accounted for in the computer programming. This may not be the case always, but I've read of a couple Ford vehicles that do it this way.

Do you know which Ford does use stock 24lb injectors? Year, model and engine size would help
