Its usually not a big deal if you don't have one, but they will use it as an excuse to pull you over. When I got my truck (used) it had one of those plastic dealer ad plates on the front and I thought the real plate was under it, nope. So I went down to get new plates and surprise surprise, both plates were on the back bumper. Anyway, it is illegal in Texas, so you're taking your chances if you don't use it.

I hate that dumb law, it just gives **** cops an excuse too give you a ticket.
Hell, some new cars don't even have a place for a front plate. (vettes)
I do have a loop hole, front bumpers are not requiered in Texas, so no front bumper means you can't have the plate atached too the bumper.

Aw yes, another clue as to what I'm looking for, BRK!!! I'll find you yet!!!
One of the dudes I work with was stopped the other day by a state trooper for no front plate, '02 F250 PSD. Told the trooper he never had one, got off with a warning only if he could prove he obtained the front plate. According to the law, even if you have a bumper cover, no mounting point for a plate or no front bumper at all, it must be displayed, at least on the dash visible thru the windshield. That's what he was told.

Friend got nailed forb no front plate and he had no grill/bumper to mount it to due to his chevy not liking slow bump of a tree. What the fine was I'm not sure. But if he mounted it or put it where it could be seen they would dismiss the fine. So he threw it on the Dash.

Dont come to Katy without front tags then. This morning on the way to school a constable pulled me over for not having plates on the front. I told him i had temp plates from the dealer and then he tried arguing that i had to have one on the front too. Finally, I got his super. out there and after explaining it to him, the Super told me to go to school and not to worry about it. Got a detetion too.
