Unhappy 462 engine

Before everyone tells me this engine is not from the 401, 477, 534 engine family, I already know that. Since there is not a board that covers these engines, and these engines are real torquers and close in displacement this is probably the board that comes closest to them. I though I would try here. I have a 462 Lincoln engine from a 67 Lincoln that I parted out several years ago. I knew the car and know that the engine is a good solid well running engine that produces gobs of torque. I am giving serious thought to putting this engine in my 55 F-600 replacing the 390 that now resides in it. This engine has a bellhousing that looks different to any Ford bellhousing that I have ever seen. I do not know but could it possibly have the same bellhousing pattern as these Super Duty engines? I have the original C-6 tranny that was behind the engine, but I want to mate it to my truck four speed. Can anyone on this board tell me if anyone makes an adapter, or does anyone know of a bellhousing that will fit this engine where I can use a manual transmission with it? Also I need to know what if any flywheels will work with this engine?

I tried www.bendtsens.com and several combinations of the name to no avail. Can you please check that URL again?

Thanks

Wow. The Lincoln 462 was part of the M-E-L engine family, and I think they had a unique bell housing. I don't think I would run one of those, parts are in pretty limited supply, and special tooling is required to bore the block, as they had the angled block deck like the Super Duty and Chevy 409.

I agree, the 390 is much more popular and parts are still pretty easy to get. If you need more torque go with another fairly modern engine like the 460. Yeah I know you already have the 462 and it runs good but in the long run you'll save lots of money and headaches trying to locate parts.

The 462 is one of a line of engines called MEL. As I understand it, the early MEL engines used the same bellhousing pattern as the FE. Then there was a change in 62 or so, and some of the bolt holes didn't line up, but the missing bolt holes could be drilled. Then another change and the pattern was even less compatible.

I'm recalling this from memory. There's a MEL web site where you can learn more. If that were my engine, I'd find a 430 block that was compatible with the FE bellhousing, and use the 462 as a donor to build up the 430. FE flywheels fit the MEL.
