My F-350 Super duty diesel used to get 18.1 mpg when driving a mixture of highway and city. Now it's only geting 15.1. Wondering if fuel injecter cleaner would be a good thing to try and if so, which one is approved for this engine.
There are no "approved" additives that Ford endorses. Stanadyne seems to be the most popular. You know, winter blended fuel will have an effect on mileage. I usually get 17-18mpg in the summer and a consistent 15mpg in the winter.
Thanks,
I knew that mileage would go down in the winter due to the winter blend fuel but did not realize it could drop the mileage that much.I was told by a ford employee about a month ago that there is no approved additive that ford endorses as well. Yesterday after I made my previous entry, I called another ford service center and was told the oppisite. I was told they use a fuel injector cleaner called Moc. They didn't think the distributer for this product sold to automotive stores. Have not had a chance to look in to further. Forgot to mention, my truck is in the shop. Found out last evening that the turbo is being replaced under warrenty.Turbo bad at 66,000. Hope it doesn't go bad at 132,000 when its out of warrenty. Possibly this was effecting the mileage. Will post my findings later.
My 2002 Excursion PSD has been doing some weird things as far as average MPG goes. The truck just rolled 4,000 miles, and i was getting a best of 12.5 MPG due to my lead foot
I just filled up a full tank this past monday-rest overhead computer-and kept the RPM's under 2000 as much as possibile and i am now at a average of 15.5 !! Funny how so little can change the milage of a PSD...
I've noticed a tremendous drop in fuel mileage over the winter. It dropped from something like 19 down to 13.5. However, I recently realized that I've been making a zillion short trips and I've grown a lead foot.....
I'm just getting ready to turn 4,000 miles on mine and i'm doing about 15 mpg according to the overhead console.I did'nt realize that there was a "winter blend"fuel.Hopefully when they go to the warrmer weather blend then my mileage will improve a bit also.Id like to get 18-20 if possible.I dont do the jackrabbit start off the line but when i'm on the highway i like to keep it at a brisk 70 -75 mph.Hey another thing i noticed with the powerstroke is i ca'nt believe how quiet the damn thing is when i get to highway speed. You'd never know it's a diesel from the lack of noise.Incredible!Luv my stroke
