New owner--Break in ???s
Well, I guess I'm king moron: 3 posts in 3 hours. So here goes:
My Ford dealer friendly service tech rep (read: commissioned salesman) told me that the best "break in" for my new PSD was a nice long drive with the cruise control on. So I drove 800 miles.
Is this wrong? Any one have any other opinions? I'd sure like to hear from the guy at the Navistar factory (Joe?)!
Thanks in advance!
Peter

All I can give you is my opinion. I don't think it makes any difference how you break it in. That is how I broke in every vehicle I've owned that had a cruise control -- on the open highway with the cruise control set. My present ride, a 1994 4.0L Ranger was broken in that way and it will use about 1 quart of oil every 5000 miles, using Mobile 1 and changing it every 10,000 miles. It presently has about 94,000 miles on it.

First, I don't know the right and wrong way to break in an engine. Here is an article I found on another sight from someone that thinks he does know. He may be right-I have no way to tell.
