wondering if any one could help me my diesel 7.3 every once in a while when i start it up and go to town about 3 miles it starts to jerk back and forth. but when it gets warmed up doesnt seem to do it any more.had the tranny replace a 7000 miles and now has 24000 miles. took it to the shop and they said could be a turbo gate or turbo heat senser. or tranny. but i pull a trailer every once awhile and it works just fine.

Have you replaced the fuel filter lately? Clean out the bottom of the filter canister with a good fuel treatment, then replace the filter with a new "Ford" filter. Don't put a cheep filter in these or you'll be doing some injector work.
Just thinking of the obvious before you spend big bucks on what may be a simple thing...

You need to take it back to the dealer and let them keep it over night, to duplicate the problem. It is very hard to find verify a complaint when the problem is not showing up. Yes a dirty fuel filter could cause this, most noticeable under a load/accelerating. A faulty IDM module or wiring could also do it (IDM module $1000.00 +)

you can try your local International dealer on those air filters.
I bought two from them the other day for $11.60 ec. dealer wanted 29.00 each.
same exact filter. just in a white box part # af25629
haven't found a International dealer yet that sells online but I am still in search of one.
again this is original equipment part.

I have the same problem.
But mine happends only when i firs turn the car on, and back out of the drive way. As soon as i throw it in (D) and go forward, its like im pulling something really heavy, then after about 5 seconds its back to normal and the car runs fine. Its a 2001 PSD 250 Lariat.
Could mine be the same thing?

>UTEMAN, what do you mean by a cheap fuel filter?
I mean I would rather pay $11.00 for the racor filter from Diesel Injection service then pay $54.00 for it at ford!
>I put in a
>Racor fuel filter.
>'Bout 2/3 the cost of the Motorcraft
>part. Racor makes the Motorcraft filter and they are one in
>the same.
I didn't clam that they were not the same filter. I learned the hard way, bought 2 filters from Ford at 54.00 ec., Went to International Trucks here in my home town and found out that racor supplies both International and Ford with same filter just different box for 14.09 each. IN my continue search for cheaper filters still, I found some at Diesel Injection service from 11.00 down to 10.00 for bulk.
International trucks had my stock air filters for 11.20 each. exact match different box just like fuel filters.
Yesterday I bought 7 air filters from FordDiesel.com for 9.95 each.
If I am paying to much let me know where to go to get them cheaper!
If it wasn't for this web site I would still be thinking that Ford is the only place to go to buy my service items.
many thanks to all!!!

>every once

I would check your fuel pickup screen. Sounds like blockage somewhere in the line. This time of year there are all kinds of things that can grow in your fuel tank.
If it was the EBV, I doubt it would make it jerk. You might notice a decrease in power, but the jerking/bucking is not a symptom. In cold weather the EBV will cycle on an off even while driving, and you will probably barely notice it.
As far as the cold start problem (lack of power for a short time at startup) that sounds like a cold diesel. The oil is not yet viscous enough to provide sufficient pressure to the injectors. Or it might be a glow plug relay issue.
