Homemade Intake for 97 PSD

Group
i know this was talked about before, but i want to build a homemade
intake, i have the filter like the napa 6637( i think thats the #)
ANd read about using PVC for the pipe.. I tired 4" Pvc and its was to Big
but a 3" 45 degree elbow that 4" OD and that seems like its too much for the
filter too...

I really want to build my own then go aftermarket..
What can i do

I did mine with a piece of 4" exhuast pipe cut about 6" long, the fliter rests on the inner fender in front of the master cylinder and behind the driver side battery.

Works fine until I get the TYMAR intake kit.

I did buy a constant torque clamp for the filter-to-pipe joint, the hose for the factory air filter attaches to the other end of the pipe.

If you want a little better "set" to the filter get a 45 degree bend exhaust pipe.

If you look at the inside diameter of the exhaust pipe vs. the inside diamater of the PVC you will see the exhaust is a lot bigger.

I would use exhaust pipe, not PVC. I would imagine that it can't stand up to the heat.

I used 4" aluminum irriagaiton pipe and rubber sewer pipe connections to build one for my buddy on his 2000. Worked great.

duck,
i am also in process of building my intake. napa filter number is 6637. everyone seems to say that this filter has the same duralite sticker as the donaldson. also you can get the orange silicone intake boot to connect 4" exhaust pipe to the factory intake part # 1743 it 6" long 4" diameter they also have an eight inch but i have not received it yet to know if it will work. also have a 4" 45 degree pipe coming that is about 12" long. i may have to cut it down. i still have checked into a clamp to hold the filter off the fender. where did you get your constant torque clamps and what did they cost?

good luck on your performance

I got my constant torque clamp at NAPA, about $4 or $5.

what's in a name? I'am from Beggs. any way did I understand that you can get a replacement for the orange hose that connects to the turbo? Ive been looking for some time and the only thing I can find is a kit that replaces the entire intake from the filter back. thanks.

believer45 i was thinking thats what your name mean and was hoping you would tell me that. i too am a believer. good to meet you.

tjbeggs is simply my name tim beggs.

schmeder, the orange silicone hose i got from napa part # 1743 is a direct replacement for the one right before the turbo. i am using it between my exhuast pipe elbow for my home made intake and the factory aluminum tube where the breather goes into the intake tubes. napa has a 6" and an 8" not sure if those would fit or maybe you could cut one down?

69crewcab,
Fortunately I have a whole mess of it laying on my property. But I'm certain there is a farmer somewhere around you that might have some smashed or bent irrigation pipe. You can usually get enough pipe to make your intake piece. And you can polish the aluminum. Good luck and sorry it took me so long to get back guys. TJ your question was answered before I got back, sorry.
