The actuator is held in place by a rivet, so the best way is to drill from the outside in. When I did mine I had to go out and by new Titanium Cobalt?(something like that) drill bits because the rivet was fairly hard. I then just used a nut, lock washer and bolt to hold the new one in place. Having said that, you can actually just pop the old actuator down out of the white bracket, but I ended up breaking the white part so I replaced it all. Its also kind of tricky to get the steel rod, that hooks into the latch part, out because it is snake in there. Good luck!
You don't have to drill out the rivet. I have done this job twice, and both times I was able to pull the actuator out of the bracket and push the new one back in. If you are going to do this, just pull hard on the actuator, straight down, and sort of "walk" it out one side to another. Of course, if you crack the bracket, you are SOL and will have to drill out the rivet. But if you don't, the job only takes about 1/2 hour.
just as j bronco says . just take your time and you should have no problem. i also found that if you spray a little silicone on the bushings it goes in much easier
Mine just fell into the door. The black plastic piece on the outside is gone. The "factory" painted hole is still there. My guess is the rivet broke. I haven't seen a new one for reference yet. That being said, I haven't quite got it out, but once I do, how do I go about fixing it without buying a new actuator? This one works fine, it's just flopping in the breeze. Will I need the "plastic" piece or a new rivet, or can I bolt it back in, unless I can't find the bracket everyone is talking about. I'm still fishing around in there. If I can get a couple more years out of it, I'd be a happy camper. Thanks for the help all.

Hey, I have almost the same problem. The only difference is that my actuators are off of the rivets. I was not sure how to get in there and re-seat them. Anyone have any diagrams of how they are supposed to be mounted???
