Ok Amigos . I Was Driving The Other Day And My Truck Shut Off Without Warning. I Had Power And Was Trying To Start It But It Didnt Catch. I Waited About 20 Minutes Or So And It Turned Right Over. What Would Cause This? I Changed The Condenser And Points And Air Cleaner And Gave It An Oil Change. Hasnt Done It Since, But Im Wondering If The Items I Have Replaced Would Have Cause That Problem . Thanks Buds
when my coil went it'd run five blocks and quit. After cool down it'd run five blocks and quit. five blocks and quit. Good thing i was only five blocks from the house.
I've had a positve battery cable swing over against the exhaust manifold and stop the engine.
I've had wires in the distributor come loose. as long as the loose wire was touching it would run. turn a corner wrong the wire would break contact, dead truck.
I've had bad automatic trannies shut the engine down....probably not the case here though. Your problem sounds like it's ignition related. Check your ground cable(s) too.

Is the weather getting hot there? Sometimes if the weather gets too hot too soon during the transitions from winter to summer gas you can get percolation. BUT, the most likely is what BB said.
thanks for replies friends . yes the weather has gotten warm recently. what is percolation? . thanks again everyone. maybe i should replace the coil too. i drove it around today for a couple of hours and no problems at all . this truck is cool . i will try to post a photo soon.
Been there, done that. I was pulling the boat to the lake...when it quit. Wouldn't start, then it would. It would do a couple miles and quit...wouldn't start...etc.
I thought it was fuel pump, nope, disconnected the condensor and it ran great, sorta. It made it home anyway and put a new condensor on it. Seems when it got warm, it would short out, therefore killing the engine. Then it would cool off, un-short itself and then run til it got hot again.
Strange how a stupid little part like that can SHUT YOU DOWN!
I had the same problem in my 72 for four years (yeh, you read it right). I changed everything including my underwear. It turned out to be a bad wire to the coil (+ side)
Check the continuity while bending or shaking the wire.
I think perculation is more commonly called vapor lock
