Diesel curiosity (hope its not a problem)

Hi all, I just recently bought a F-350 7.3L diesel, and sometimes, almost every time, I start it up in the morning, (and this happens only when I start it up after it has been sitting for a while) as soon is it turns over, it sounds like I have my foot on the accelerator, and quickley taking it off, then on etc. and I'm not evean touching the pedal. It does this for about 15-20 seconds.

Anything to be worried about? My dealer told me this was normal, and the diesal engines tend to "work the problems out themselves"

Thanks

Mine does that as well, it doesn't seem to hurt anything.

I went out and tried mine, and the '96 does that for 30 seconds, from cold. The 02 does it for 20 seconds.
A a Freightliner I had once would do it for 5 minutes, and never had any problems.

It could be your glow plugs cycling on and off. When on, there's more complete combustion and the resulting sound will be different.

Hey Theologian,
Did you replace the stock turbo with the Banks? Notice much difference? Just picked up a '97 and am looking at mods, mostly want to increase mileage/performance.
Thanks
Brian
