93 4x4 Aerostar Starter Replacement Question

Does anyone know where to place a jack under the engine so I can replace the starter on my 1993 Ford Aerostar? I have looked up info in books, but only find out information regarding 2wd. I have loosen the moter mount on the left side, but do not know where to place the jack. I do not want to place it under the aluminum casing. Any suggestions? Thanks, Jimguns@aol.com

Are you replacing the starter jimguns? I don't think loosening the motor mounts is the way to go. I changed mine last month,('91 4L 4x4), I jacked up the front left corner suspension, and unbolted the front drive shaft at the rear end, and it just slipped through. Getting the cables on and off is not easy, there was no slack. I discovered that what passes as a frame in that area, crumples if you jack it.

mwkobe's got it right. I just did this about a month ago. It may not look like it, but there is enough room to get the starter out.

When I did that job (91 AWD 4L) there was enough room with the shaft pushed to one side to squeeze the starter through with about quarter inch clearance. I did rotate the starter a bit to get it out. It should go through.

I have tried to hit the drive shaft, but with no luck in moving it apart at the front, I know if i get it off, then I can get the starter out (with little space). is there a way to seperate the drive shaft after the bolts are removed?
