can anybody tell me what all i need to hook up a pa system to my truck ive seen friends have them... do i just buy a cb radio and hook up an outside speaker or what?
Just be careful where/how you mount the PA speaker. One day I was trying to use mine and it wasn't working. Go to check the wiring, only to realize...I NO LONGER HAD A PA SPEAKER. Guess I shouldn't have been driving those pot-holed gravel roads at 60...
Yup, I got a Cobra 25 Classic with a PA speaker under the hood. Great CB, the only thing it dosen't have is the Weather Band. Not all CBs have PA, so make sure it's on there when you are buying one.
If you have a CB without a PA speaker jack on the back of it, but do have an external speaker jack on it, you can use the external speaker jack as a PA output if you have a mic with talkback. It's kinda weak, but it does work.
Check out ebay for a police siren box and generator. These are usually at least 75 watts, some 100. It would probably be illegal to use the siren feature, but the PA works great. There are a couple of other features, you can hook your CB up to broadcast out the PA speaker and the speakers are heavy duty cast alluminum.
I know that Oregon and Utah sell thier surplus on ebay, probably others and you can get this stuff cheap.
check your local vehicle codes! i know in California, it is legal to have a PA on your vehicle, but NOT LEGAL to use them. back when i was 16 and dumb, i installed two drive-in speakers under the hood of my car, connected to my stereo with an on/off switch. well, i left the switch on one day and got a ticket from my local PD for using a PA system without a permit. i didn't believe the cop and asked him to show me in the code book and he did. I HAD to go to court with my mother because it was the law back then. the judge was [very mad] to be bothered with such a stupid ticket and fined me only 10 bucks. like i said, check your local vehicle code.
