7.3 Diesel Longevity?

I Have a 99 E-350 with 190,000 miles. Van still runs great. I am wondering how much longer I should keep the van? Never had a problem with the Powerstroke or tranny. Never even serviced the tranny. Fluid looks great. Dont pull much with the van, used as a service van across the country. Should I be looking ? Also does the Turbo ever need maintenence? Thanks

I've heard that 250,000 miles on a diesel is equivelant to about 100,000 on a gasser. If you're not having any problems, I'd wait until it gets close to 250,000.

I always say if it ain't broke don't fix it. If the truck runs great and you have minimal maitanence costs, why trade up. Unless you are looking for a reason, in which case I'd say " That thing is just waiting to blow up and I'd better get a new one before that happens"

98.9 percent of all Power Stroke Diesel engines sold since 1994 are still on the road today. Who else can claim that?

Well thanks for easing my mind. I am just amazed I havent had any problems yet and since I travel alot I just hate to break down in Tin Buck Too New Mexico. I have faith in the engine, Im just concerned about the tranny. I think I should be fortunate to never had any problems (without even a fluid change)! Again the fluid looks new with 190,000 miles and I heard the sameDont mess with it!). Thanks

I would like to say that the last two gassers that I had, both are at 175,00 plus miles and still going. I believe the bar has moved up from the past. Unless you own a chev!

humm assuming the question was asked to me, I cannot answer the question as I have only had the vehicule for 3 weeks now, but from what my wife's uncle states, the tranny never has been replaced.

Wow! If you figure that the majority of the missing ~1% are more than likely accidents or rollovers that resulted in total losses, that would mean that almost every Power Stroke made is still currently running. With over a million produced, that is very impressive...

7.3 Diesel Longevity?

Well every time I wanted to service the tranny they said the fluid looks great and not to. Even at 190,000 miles It still looks good and I am at the point now that everyone says not to change fluid because it might create problems! I have another question tho: I dont hear my turbo whistle like I used to. If my turbo was gone wouldnt I feel a big difference in power? The turbo is either working or not , right?

Post 7.3 Diesel Longevity?

Hey "91F250DSL - Patrick Bureau" you mentioned piston compression at every 100k miles. I've got an F250 7.3l diesel with 218000 miles and it smokes after 3 hrs driving when I let off the accelerator. Smoke is light gray/white. Could this indicate rings or valves need replacing?

Thanks
DieselSteve

Hmmm, That actually might be caused by cavitation. The 7.3L's are VERY well known to cause cavitation if the antifreeze isn't treated.

Cavitation is the wearing of cylinder walls. It's the death of the block.
