One name that hasn't been mentioned on here is good ol Hank Williams Jr. One of the only country singers keeping it country and not going pop. Love his stuff, especailly when he gets with all his rowdy friends (Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash (RIP), Charlie Pride, and all the other country slingers - legends as well). What he, and they sing, is true country. Sure I love Alan Jackson, but good ol Hank has that true southern tune that i love.

The old stuff is good, not too many new bands with the right sound. Collective Soul, Rob Zombie, Ynwgie Malmsteen in G3 is awesome.
If you don't play an instrument, it's not music. That rules out Rap. You can't grab your crotch if you are slingin' a Gibson.

Never did care for Willie Nelson or Johnny Cash. Mainly I listen to Cds not the radio because there aint nothing worth listening to on it. They dont make music like they use to. As for rap, I dont see how the first thing they do is thank God and wear crosses and yet all they do in their "songs" is cuss, get drunk and talk about women in an unppropriate way. They also need to learn to buy clothes that fit them. Well Im done rambling now.

Here, here! You said it Glory. If only the rest of America would wake up and reject rap... Oh well, I guess black women just want to keep getting degraded in those raunchy soft-core porno (i mean "music") videos:

Why country music died in 1962
"ryaneverk2]What happened in 1962, FarmForward? I'm too young to know, but I assume a famous country singer died... Was it Hank Williams, or had he already passed on by then?
Anyone here like Charlie Daniels Band? Maybe a little Devil Went Down to Georgia?
Ryan"
Hank Williams had died on January 1st, 1953, Ryan.
What happened in 1962 was that the Grand Ole Opry allowed drums to be played on its stage. With the advent of percussion, the beat began to be more important to the song than the melody of it, and "country" music headed into the territory of "pop" and "country rock". In my opinion, this spelled the end of "traditional" country.
